The Gold Coast Project Outline.
The Gold Coast rapid monorail project is being formulated by Skyrail Transit Systems in conjunction with and as an alternative to the Gold Coast Rapid Transit Project. The route alignment for the most part will follow the same path as the already identified rapid transit corridor with 3 important additions.
Firstly, an additional monorail line is being proposed from Nerang to Robina via Broadbeach, Miami, and Bond University. This additional line would have enormous benefits for commuters, students and residents alike across the residential areas en route and would see the monorail system integrated into at least 3 heavy rail stations as opposed to the Governments current plan to only link Helensvale railway station in their tram project.
Secondly, the monorail has an option to create a loop at the Northern end and take in both route alignments of Parkwood and Harbour town as opposed to the Government's current plan to only service Harbour Town.
Last but not least the monorail can be easily extended to Coolangatta airport completing the transport system integration for the entire Gold Coast
Other additional benefits of using modern rapid monorail technology in the Gold coast project include little to no disruption to parking and businesses in the Southport business district or anywhere alse for that matter, both during and after construction.
The design of the monorail system can be done in conjunction with the numerous high rise developments planned for the Gold Coast giving an option to have monorail stations located immediately adjacent to, or even inside some of these buildings.
The dual line system running via Broadbeach will have huge advantages for the tourist industry including Jupiter's Casino and Broadbeach International Hotel with direct links to Surfers Paradise and 3 heavy rail stations.
No LRT tramway system can match these advantages and no LRT tramway system can utilise the low operating and maintenance costs of urban rapid monorail on the Gold Coast. It is anticipated by Skyrail Transit Systems that in time the Queensland Government will turn to exploring tunnelling or massive elevated concrete eyesores as options to get their tramway system through Southport and Surfers Paradise as it is obvious that trams will only cause more grid lock and compete for road space. Only the weight of public protest will prevent that madness.
