About Skyrail Transit Systems

A Message From Skyrail Transit Systems

Thank you for visiting our web site where you will find a wealth of information on our urban monorail projects.  Skyrail Transit Systems are transit engineers and consultants formerly based in Brisbane and Perth.  Skyrail Australia and Skyrail Transit Systems hold licensing rights in Australia to a number of urban and high speed monorail systems.  We are presently working closely with Monorail suppliers from Malaysia, Canada and Japan  The new Scomi Sutra vehicle was recently unveiled in Kuala Lumpur by the Malaysian Prime Minister. This vehicle is suited to the Brisbane, Gold Coast, and Perth urban environment and is very competitively priced.  Hitachi and Bombardier also have very good mass transit monorail systems that travel at speeds up to 100km/h.

We have good relations with many companies accross a broad range of industry.  The Cheif Operating Officer Mr. Robert Mcjannett was also formerly construction superintendent on the Sunway Lagoon theme park project in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia for the Australian Leisure Industries/Sungei-Way corporation joint venture during the early 90's. Mr. Mcjannett has promoted monorail systems in Brisbane previously and lobbied against the former Briztram- Brisbane Light Rail project for very good reasons.

Mr. Mcjannett publicly predicted the financial collapse of the Airtrain 2 years before it ran aground.  He publicly predicted the derailment of the tilt train over 2 years before it derailed with disasterous consequences. He also correctly predicted the shelving of the Petrie to Kippa Ring transport corridor 2 years before it was shelved. Skyrail Australia (Transit Systems) was a stakeholder in the former Gold Coast Light Rail project and unfortunately Mr. Mcjannett's predictions about the demise of that project also came true.  Skyrail Transit Systems is becoming a stakeholder in the new revamped rapid transit project on the Gold Coast where various monorail systems are being put forward.  There are also plans on foot to promote mass transit monorail systems in Brisbane and Perth.

It is unfortunate that this business has had to endure a great deal of negative dealings resulting in the demise of a number of mass transit projects around Queensland in the past, but the future is looking much brighter for new technology as the public are now demanding more accountability and better public transport options.  We should point out that there are zero urban mass transit monorail systems operating in Australia.  The 3 monorail systems operating here in Sydney and Gold Coast are slow theme park grade monorails and not mass transit systems.  It is open to suggest that the planning authorities and Government appointed consultants have, in the past, deliberately confused the public over this issue by repeatedly pointing to the Sydney monorail and claiming it is a typical monorail system not good enough for urban mass transit. This information is misleading to the general public and taxpayers alike! It is utterly incorrect.  (ref: GHD Petrie to Kippa Ring corridor mode comparison stage; Parsons Brinkerhoff Gold Coast Light rail project mode comparison stage.)

When this company submitted plans and proposals to Queensland Transport during the period 1998 to 2004 we were given negative responses from persons including former minister Steve Bredhauer.  In one letter Queensland Transport incorrectly claimed monorails could not integrate with existing systems.  There are many existing monorail projects which dispell this myth. The Kuala Lumpur monorail for example integrates with LRT, commuter rail, buses and taxis.  Monorails can easily pass right through buildings and integrate with shoppers and office workers. Another member of QT hypocritically claimed that monorails were not desirable due to the elevated nature of stations causing difficulties with access.  During this time QR were installing elevators at the commuter railway stations accross Brisbane!?

All the arguments being put forward by those at QT, BT, and QR in relation to urban monorail systems are bankrupt.  The facts are simply this-  Monorails hold the safest record on the face of the earth with zero fatalities recorded for decades.  It is not possible for a monorail to crash into any motor vehicles or run down pedestrians.  The situation with LRT trams is the opposite as they kill pedestrians and crash into motor vehicles every day.  Monorails can be constructed and operated much cheaper than LRT trams.  Monorails can use existing road corridors without tearing up the road during construction and without reducing the existing road capacity.  Compared to LRT trams monorail construction causes a fraction of the disruption to businesses and commuters along the route alignment.

There are some old pictures of the Kuala Lumpur monorail on this site. Some systems have innovative crash barriers around the pylons.  Scomi Engineering's new state of the art SUTRA vehicle has considerably larger carrying capacity than the one in these pictures. The Scomi SUTRA monorail brochure is available courtesy of thier website by clicking on the link above. This is the right technology for the Gold Goast, Brisbane and Perth regions. Please support us by writing to your local councillor and MP demanding new and better transport technology for your region.

Yours Truly
